What Microsoft Clarity is
Microsoft Clarity is a free, GDPR-compliant behaviour analytics tool that captures session recordings, heatmaps (click, scroll, and move), and automatically flags UX issues such as rage clicks and dead clicks — giving teams a qualitative view of how real users navigate a storefront.
How we integrate Microsoft Clarity with Shopify
Clarity is implemented via its JavaScript tracking snippet, loaded through Shopify's theme (typically in `theme.liquid`). Ecom Majesty ensures the snippet fires correctly across all pages including checkout (where Shopify's Content Security Policy requires explicit allowlisting), applies data masking to payment fields and personally identifiable information to maintain GDPR compliance, and connects Clarity to Google Analytics 4 so qualitative session data is correlated with quantitative conversion events. For CRO engagements, Clarity session recordings complement A/B test results from tools like AB Tasty by showing the behavioural context behind conversion changes.
What the work involves
- Clarity snippet fired correctly across all pages including checkout, with the required Shopify CSP allowlisting.
- Data masking applied to payment fields and PII to maintain GDPR compliance.
- Clarity connected to GA4 so qualitative session data correlates with quantitative conversion events.
- Session recordings used to add behavioural context to A/B test results in CRO work.
